Welcome Paper Bird - New Supporter for Boomerang Bags

Turn Lyme Green welcomes ‘Paper Bird’ in Coombe Street, Lyme Regis as the latest shop to join the Boomerang Bag project.  Pleased to join the scheme, Rebecca at Paper Bird said, “ This is a great idea.   I look forward to lending the bags and encouraging my customers to return them.”.

Shops are reporting that some bags are being returned. Recently a visitor returned a bag they had borrowed from ‘Lyme Time Travellers’ when they were in Lyme a year ago.

Liz Davis, Coordinator, explains, “The Boomerang Bag scheme involves great team-work. Thanks to the brilliant sewing team who work away so happily and productively once a week, Flora who prints the labels, Ginger Beer which sells Big Bags to raise funds for Turn Lyme Green, everyone who donates fabric, all the shops and organisations that distribute the bags and the customers who return them. “

The project is in its 4th year supporting the Plastic Free Lyme Regis campaign and over 1500 bags have been distributed to shops and local B&Bs. Old curtains or material  tucked away in a bottom drawer are donated and saved from landfill.  The team then make these popular reusable carrier bags, a sustainable alternative to plastic bags.   When possible, themed bags are made matching the fabric design to our supporting shops.  Primary Colours and the Library now have bright and cheerful bags to catch children’s attention and Pug and Puffin have bags with a doggie theme.

These lovely bags should never be tucked away and forgotten. Customers are encouraged to continue to use them or return them to the shops in Lyme Regis which will be delighted to receive them. Read more about the Recycle Sewing Group
