Achievements and Successes
River Issues:
Getting more monitoring by the Environment Agency in the River Lim which has detected high levels of bacteria, particularly in the lower portion of the river to the mouth
Setting up three teams of Citizen Science monitors so we have our own data on water quality; e.coli and invertebrates
Getting action by South West Water on illegal misconnections and their own discharges which were over 1200 hours in 2023
Securing funding from Lyme Regis Town Council for monitoring, dealing with invasive species and for an ecological survey of the river
Encouraging roundtable discussions facilitated by the Town Council, with the participation of SWW, the EA and Dorset Council as well as ourselves
Beach Issues:
Getting a CCTV survey of the drains on the seafront which are causing sewage contamination and identifying problems and solutions
Encouraging testing of the sediment from the Harbour dredging to make sure it’s benign
Securing the redesignation of Church Cliff Beach with the aim of improving water quality in the river which affects the beaches
Working towards getting both our bathing beaches up to “Excellent” standard.
Making sure beach users have better access to vital data about water quality
We’re continuing to ask questions of South West Water and the Environment Agency - access the Q&A via the button
The River Lim Action group has been monitoring the River Lim’s health for two full years. Now that the monitoring has evolved to include bacteria and invertebrates this report is a review of our findings.
