Well done to the Lyme Litterpickers! Jingle bell-ROCKING their seasonal gear! Another very successful litter pick, despite it being the off season there’s still plenty of rubbish to grab! (The mince pies were delicious as well!)
Christmas Tree Festival 2024
Turn Lyme Green was happy to take part in this year’s Christmas Tree Festival, a popular community event in Lyme Regis. Our tree featured mini boomerang bags and activities from Plastic Free Lyme Regis and River Lim Action group
Monitoring and what it tells us - RLA report
The River Lim Action group has been monitoring the River Lim’s health for two full years. Now that the monitoring has evolved to include bacteria and invertebrates this report is a review of our findings.
Lyme bathing beaches – the scores are in!
The two bathing beaches in Lyme Regis have been given their water quality classifications based on Environment Agency sampling. River Lim Action and Lyme Regis Blue Tits say there’s room for improvement!

The RLA Riverfly team monitor 7 sites on the river every month to detect and count these species. That site gets a score which is then updated onto the national Riverfly Partnership Cartographer. Introducing #2 The Mayfly!
South West Water appears to have gone back on its promise of a £20 million improvement scheme for Lyme Regis and Uplyme
The water company seems to have cut its commitment to £16 million. Despite being included in the water industry’s Storm Overflows Discharge Reduction Plan, a much-needed upgrade and expansion of the Uplyme Sewage Treatment Works by 2027 now seems to be off the cards.
Wild Trout Trust Report
A new report by the Wild Trout Trust has shown the potential for improving trout habitat and removing barriers to fish passage on the Lim.

Himalayan Balsam (HB) removal experience 2024
Now the season has finished for 2024, I thought it would be a good idea on looking back at what we have learnt from this year’s volunteer effort at trying to tackle Himalayan Balsam.

On one of the last days of September, I followed the River Lim corridor from Lyme Regis to Cannington Lane, Uplyme to see how many birds I could find.
Lyme Splash cancelled after sewage spilt from the River Lim
The Lyme Splash Sea Swim Challenge was due to take place on Sunday, September 8. After heavy rain and a discharge of wastewater from a storm overflow, the event was called off on the day before for health and safety reasons. The event could not be rearranged for later this year due to the harbour’s timetable, and because 50 volunteers are needed to see the event run smoothly.

Celebrations in Lyme Regis as Church Beach redesignated for bathing
Church Beach in Lyme Regis has been redesignated as a bathing beach after a two year campaign. Local water quality campaigners, swimmers and many local businesses have been celebrating after receiving the news.

Official data still shows high human sewage levels in the River Lim

Nearly 2 months of sewage discharges into River Lim in 2023
Latest data out from the Environment Agency on permitted sewage overflows in 2023 showed that untreated sewage spilled into the River Lim, in Lyme Regis, for 1300 hours (equivalent in time to almost two months).
